Roadside NDT services are important for operators who perform small internal inspections in their hangars. "While we want them to come to Duncan Aviation for all of their aircraft maintenance, we understand why some operators choose not to relocate their aircraft," says Casey Harvick, Duncan Aviation's vice president of maintenance. "We work with them to simplify their NDT requirements so they can do it."

Duncan Aviation's capabilities include being the official Dassault NDT in the Western Hemisphere. Only a few facilities are trained and authorized to meet the stringent requirements of Falcon NDT. Dassault limits the number of certified Falcon NDT technicians at any one time to ensure proficiency. Of the 22 Dassault-certified NDT technicians in the Western Hemisphere, five are from Duncan Aviation.

Duncan Aviation is an aviation service provider serving the aviation needs of commercial aircraft operators, government agencies and other aviation service providers. Services include major and minor airframe inspections, engine maintenance, major retrofits for cabin and cockpit avionic systems, complete paint and interior services, engineering and certification services, fabrication and production services, and sales and acquisitions of pre-owned aircraft. Duncan Aviation has international aircraft component solution specialists available 24/7/365 +1 402.475.4125 to handle any aircraft system issue including immediate exchanges, rotables, loaners or avionics/instrument/accessory repair and overhaul. Full service facilities are located in Battle Creek, Michigan; Lincoln, Nebraska; and Provo, Utah. We also have dozens of other facilities throughout the United States to provide customers with scheduled regional support and the fastest possible response to avionic, engine and aircraft on ground (AOG) situations. MARTEC Aviation provides specialized NDT services throughout the United States, Latin America, the Caribbean, Asia and the Middle East. We are ready to conduct internal and on-site inspections and can assemble anywhere in the world at a moment's notice once a project is secured. We guarantee to provide you with the most convenient uptime to enable us to meet your aircraft maintenance objectives. MARTEC Aviation can help you train your in-house NDT personnel in any or all of the NDT methods we offer. Our team consists of ASNT and NAS-410 certified NDT Level 3 and Level 2 well trained and experienced professionals. We have extensive experience working with private and commercial air carriers, DOD and DOT clients in addition to parts manufacturers, parts brokers, machines. shops and other FAA/EASA certified repair stations.

Our team of consultants can assist you with NDT Level 3 services such as developing written methods, procedures and work instructions; Project management and staff growth during heavy workloads.

Ndt & Corrosion

We can formally train your NDT prospects to Level 1, 2 or 3 in one or more NDT methods with radiation safety depending on your needs. Courses can be taught according to SNT-TC-1A, NAS-410, CP-189 or designed to meet your individual needs. We provide the theoretical knowledge and qualifications required to succeed in the NDT industry.

Our experienced auditors can provide audit and monitoring services for your internal NDT program and/or authorized vendors. We can provide comprehensive audits of quality systems or audits of specific areas such as NDT and radiation safety.

The handling and safe operation of ionizing radiation machines and isotope sources must meet strict state and federal regulations for the biological effects of radiation. We have radiation safety officers who can help you develop a radiation safety manual and provide safety training for your radiation personnel so that your company maintains a safe working environment for your employees and members of the public.

The following provides a brief description of the non-destructive testing methods offered at MARTEC Aviation. Non-destructive testing is a means of assessing the structural health status of items without affecting their usefulness. Non-destructive testing is widely used in the aviation industry to ensure that aircraft, parts and components are safe and sound.

Sticking It To The Plane

Visual testing is the observation of a test object, either directly by eye or indirectly using optical equipment to assess the presence of surface defects and to evaluate the conformance of the object to specifications. Visual testing is the first NDT method applied when inspecting any object.

The process of coating a test sample with a fluorescent dye. The paint penetrant is allowed to sit on the part for a period of time, excess penetrant solution is removed from the surface, and a developer is applied to remove penetrant left behind in surface defects.

This method is performed by inducing a magnetic field in a ferromagnetic material and then applying dry or wet iron particles to the surface of the test piece. When a surface or surface discontinuity disrupts the magnetic field, the iron particles create an outline of the leakage field that reveals its location, size, and shape.

Eddy currents are produced in conductive materials by changing magnetic fields. Signals are recorded when a surface defect interrupts the flow of eddy currents. These currents are also affected by the electrical and magnetic permeability of a material.

The Benefits Of Ultrasonic Testing For Composite Structures

Ultrasonic testing involves the use of sound energy to evaluate an object's internal defects, thickness measurement, or bond characteristics.

Radiography uses X-rays or gamma radiation to create an image on a piece of film (or detector) of the internal structure of a part. The test requires access to the top and back surfaces of the test piece. However, little or no surface preparation is required. Safety is one of the most important factors in the aerospace industry. When failure occurs, it can have far-reaching consequences. While some failures are caused by simple human error, many problems occur because small defects escape detection and become terminal failures. Aircraft NDT inspections aren't just about meeting regulations and minimizing downtime—it's about finding outages that can lead to disasters.

For that reason, there are many solutions focused on quickly and accurately testing various aircraft components. More traditional methods have given way to complex and sophisticated technologies capable of probing the deepest layers of materials. When these tools are in the hands of an experienced operator, it is much easier to catch small defects before they become critical points of failure.

Safety should always be the primary objective of aircraft inspections, but many in charge want to be able to perform these reviews quickly and cost-effectively. The obstacles arise because aircraft NDT inspection presents a unique set of industry-specific challenges. These challenges include:

Industries, Eddy Current Flaw Detector, Ndt, Non Destructive Testing

Many different solutions with varying levels of effectiveness exist to address all of the above challenges in NDT detection. Everything from visual assessment to the use of sophisticated equipment has been developed to detect aircraft faults while ensuring speed and efficiency.

The simplest way to test an aircraft NDT is a traditional visual inspection. While it is ideal for detecting clear and obvious faults, it also collects less accurate results due to the potential for human error. More detailed methods improve accuracy in detecting weaknesses.

A paint or liquid penetrant (LP) test is a simple solution that uses paint drawn into pinholes or cracks that break the surface. This process allows the inspector to see defects that may not have been visible before. Of course, this is only suitable for testing surface cracks and requires significant part preparation to avoid the risk of false positives from dirt or debris. The user has to deal with the disposal of chemicals and record the results manually, which can lead to transcription errors.

An alternative method called magnetic particle inspection (MPI) eliminates the need for chemicals by using a fine ferromagnetic material that collects in cracks or defects that break the surface. This method is another where considerable preparation and cleanup time is required, such as manual cataloging of results.

Ndt: A Vital Contributor To Plant Reliability

Radiography is another time-tested technique that eliminates many of the pitfalls inherent in LP and MPI testing. X-rays examine the object for internal defects, providing a much deeper view than other methods. However, it relies on radiation, which means safety equipment is required that makes moving the unit inefficient, delaying inspections. There is also a risk of continued exposure as cumulative exposure can lead to serious medical conditions.

There are two aircraft NDT inspection options that provide the speed, accuracy and flexibility needed to meet all industry challenges and allow easy recording of highly detailed results. Both eddy current and ultrasonic testing are applicable over a wide range
